[MFAA Admin]: Hi there, my name is [MFAA Admin] and I’m calling from the Mississauga Fine Arts Academy. How are you?

[Student]: I’m good, how are you?

[MFAA Admin]: Good, thank you. I’m just calling about the violin lessons. Is now a good time to speak?

[Student]: Yeah, this is a good time to speak.

[MFAA Admin]: Awesome, okay. And were those lessons for yourself or are they for someone else?

[Student]: They are for myself.

[MFAA Admin]: Okay, and have you taken the violin before, any music lessons, or would this be the first time?

[Student]: Um, I have taken some lessons when I was pretty young, but I would like to pick that up again.

[MFAA Admin]: Okay, and do you have a violin or are you still looking to get an instrument?

[Student]: Um, I have a violin, but I think I will like, um, I’m gonna rent a new one.

[MFAA Admin]: Okay, so I can give you some information about what we offer here. So, we have private music lessons here, so they are one-on-one. The lessons would be once per week at the same day and time every week with one of our qualified teachers here. So, all of our teachers here are either university or college trained, and we do also offer two free recitals that you would be able to participate in as well. And in terms of the pricing, the lessons are $39.50 for the 30-minute classes, which is most popular for people just starting out again, which is $158 per month. However, we do have a promotion right now, so if you are to register before the 15th of April, the first class would be free and the registration fee would be waived as well.

[Student]: Gotcha. Um, and just want to ask like when you say um in person, is that like and your price is about $40 per hour or per half an hour?

[MFAA Admin]: Yes.

[Student]: Um, and that which ends up at somewhere $150, $160 for the month.

[MFAA Admin]: Yes.

[Student]: And these one-on-one classes, is this something that like we have to show up at the place or does the tutor come to us?

[MFAA Admin]: It would be at our location here, so we’re at Burnhamthorpe and Creditview. We also do online options as well.

[Student]: Okay, so Creditview. Gotcha. And um, apart from that, yeah, when you say you know it gives you an opportunity to participate in recitals, what does that exactly mean?

[MFAA Admin]: Yes, so we have two recitals per year in June and December. They happen at the Living Arts Centre, and um each recital block is about an hour long and it would showcase you and other students as well, just performing pieces that you’ve been working on with the teacher.

[Student]: Okay, gotcha. And um, is there like do these courses, like the beginner level courses, help you go through any of like getting a violin certification for a beginner or something? If that’s what your goal is?

[MFAA Admin]: Yeah, so one thing we can help do is prepare students for RCM. That’s the Royal Conservatory of Music, which is like the uh certification program in Canada, if that’s something that you want to do. It is very popular with violin, though.

[Student]: Yeah, that is something that I am interested in.

[MFAA Admin]: Yeah, absolutely, we would be able to help for that.

[Student]: And uh I like what would be the days or timings when these classes are, and because I do work like um I do work full time, so I’m just trying to make sure that it can somehow fit into my schedule?

[MFAA Admin]: Yes, so we are open seven days a week. I can check our schedule. Were you looking for weekday evenings or weekends?

[Student]: Uh, I would say my preference would be weekends.

[MFAA Admin]: Okay, let me take a look. So I have time on Sundays right now, so 11:30, 12:30, 1:30, or 3 o’clock. And then Saturdays at 1:00, 2:30, or 4 o’clock. Would any of those times work for you?

[Student]: Um, I’ll like you know take a look at the location and I can confirm. And uh weekdays, what are your like do you have like what kind of options do you have? Is there are there any classes later in the evening?

[MFAA Admin]: Yes, so we’re open until 9:00 PM on weekdays, so the latest class time would be 8:30 to 9 o’clock.

[Student]: Okay, that’s that’s good. Um, and generally on like we can figure out the days accordingly, I would say. I will just like you know maybe.

[MFAA Admin]: Yeah, so what I can do if you’d like, I can send you an email with all the information including the address, and then I’ll include some times that are available as well. That way you can kind of look it over and then just let us know what works best for you.

[Student]: Mhm. And uh what would you like I know that you said that you know there’s a promotion until 15th April, so I just have to sign up and then I can get my classes towards the like start later in the month right?

[MFAA Admin]: Yeah, so if you register by April 15th and let’s say you wanted to start end of April or early May, we could do that and still apply the promotion.

[Student]: Okay, perfect. Um, is there anything else that um I need to know or people need to know about when we are getting started?

[MFAA Admin]: I think everything is accounted for, but what I’ll do, I’ll send you that email with our information, and then if you have any questions then just give me a call back or reply to that email and let me know. Uh sometimes it does go to your spam folder, so just check there as well.

[Student]: Mhm. Do we get any options in uh the tutors or like is it just based on the schedules?

[MFAA Admin]: Yes, it would be based on availability, but if you start with a teacher and you realize you know there isn’t that connection there, we can make changes moving forward.

[Student]: Okay, gotcha. Uh, yeah, I think that’s good. And there are no like um tutors that come to your like our place, right?

[MFAA Admin]: No, we only have them at the academy here.

[Student]: Okay, gotcha. Uh, sounds good. Do you guys also rent violins?

[MFAA Admin]: We don’t, but I recommend a store called Music M. They have instrument rentals and purchases. There are discounts for our students as well. I’ll include that information in the email I send to you.

[Student]: Amazing. Thank you so much.

[MFAA Admin]: Yeah, no problem. Have a good day.

[Student]: You as well. Bye now.

What is the Musical Ladder System?

At Mississauga Fine Arts Academy, we believe every student benefits from setting and achieving personalized goals. That’s why we use the Musical Ladder System—a unique, motivational program that celebrates students’ progress in music, just like karate belts or swimming levels.

With the Musical Ladder System®, each student receives a customized learning plan and is tested on their progress every 3 months for the first 18 months, every 6 months until their fifth year, and once a year after that. There are 18 levels in all, from Apprentice to Artist. Every level earns a certificate and a colourful wristband (students even get to choose between two designs), and major milestones, such as reaching Rock Star after one year, also earn a trophy.

This approach keeps students motivated and inspired, making learning music an exciting journey.
