NEW Program at MFAA: Spotlight Singers

MFAA Spotlight Singers ver 1

We are excited to introduce a new program at the Academy — MFAA Spotlight Singers.

This small group program is designed for students who enjoy singing and would like to experience performing as part of a group. While private lessons focus on individual development, Spotlight Singers gives students the opportunity to sing together, explore vocal harmony, and build confidence in a supportive setting.

The program will incorporate elements of vocal harmony, musical theatre expression, and light stage movement, creating a fun and engaging group experience for students.

Students in MFAA Spotlight Singers will work on:

• Singing in harmony

• Ensemble listening and blending

• Stage presence and expression

• Musical theatre-style performance

You do not need to be a current vocal student to join. This program is open to any student who would like to explore group singing and perform in a fun, collaborative environment.

We are excited to have Ms. Emily, one of our vocal instructors, leading this program. Emily has been teaching vocal lessons at MFAA and brings both performance experience and a passion for working with students.

“Hello everyone! I am so beyond excited to share my love of vocal ensemble singing with students within the MFAA community. As someone who has performed in choirs and vocal ensembles in many musical theatre productions myself, I know how beneficial and uplifting the experience of singing together can truly be. I am so excited to not only teach the skills of harmony, but to promote an encouraging environment for singers to uplift each other through song.” — Ms. Emily

The program will follow a semester-based structure, similar to our Chamber Strings group:

• September – December

• January – April

• May – August

Our first Spotlight Singers semester will begin in May.

Classes will run on Thursdays, with two small groups:

6:30 – 7:30 PM

7:30 – 8:30 PM

Groups will be kept small to ensure students receive individual attention while enjoying the experience of singing together.

We are happy to announce that the Mississauga Fine Arts Academy Summer Recitals are just around the corner! This special event is always one of the highlights of the year, where our students have the opportunity to share their hard work and musical achievements with family and friends on stage.

This year’s recitals will take place on June 13, 14, 20, and 21 at the beautiful Living Arts Centre.

Our recitals are a wonderful celebration of music, dedication, and progress. Students of all ages and instruments will perform and experience the excitement of playing on a professional stage in front of a supportive audience.

More details about registration, recital times, and participation will be announced soon. For now, mark your calendars and get ready to celebrate music with us!

It’s the perfect time to share your love for music and introduce a friend to the welcoming, family-oriented MFAA community.

How to Participate

🎵 Bring a friend to your lesson, or pick up an invitation at the front desk.

🎵 Your friend can book one free lesson on any instrument (by appointment).

🎵 Both you and your friend will be entered into our BIG Quarterly Prize Draw!

Zoie N.!

Congratulations to Zoie N., our Student of the Month! Zoie has been taking voice lessons at Mississauga Fine Arts Academy since March 2023, studying with Ms. Daniela. Her dedication, steady progress, and love for music truly stand out.

Let’s hear what Ms. Daniela says about Zoie’s progress:

“I chose Zoie due to the dedication she has to practicing, her consistent improvement and her love for learning new concepts. She most recently challenged herself with a song that included spanish which she hadn’t had experience singing in, but with her consistent practice, it’s now been a breeze for her.” – Ms. Daniela

Pajama Week & Contest Winner 🎉

March at Mississauga Fine Arts Academy brought extra coziness and fun with our Pajama Week! Students and teachers came to lessons dressed in their comfiest pajamas, creating a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere throughout the academy. It was such a joy to see everyone embracing the spirit, sharing smiles, and making music in such a fun and laid-back way.

A big congratulations to Emma L., the winner of our Pajama Week contest, who took home a $25 gift card! Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this week so memorable.

Student Spotlight: Congratulations to Izabella Z!

We are proud to shine the spotlight on Isabella Z., whose dedication and hard work continue to inspire everyone around her at Mississauga Fine Arts Academy. Isabella has been studying piano with us since 2021, and over the years, she has shown remarkable growth, commitment, and a genuine love for music.

Most recently, Isabella achieved an impressive milestone by earning two third-place awards at the Peel Music Festival—a wonderful accomplishment that reflects both her musical development and her perseverance. Preparing for a festival takes focus, discipline, and confidence, and Isabella rose to the occasion beautifully.

A big part of Isabella’s success is the guidance of her teacher, Ms. Lesya, who brings over 40 years of teaching experience to her lessons. With her deep knowledge, patience, and passion for teaching, Ms. Lesya has helped Isabella build a strong foundation while encouraging her to express herself through music.

Congratulations, Isabella, on this fantastic achievement! We are so proud of you and look forward to seeing all the wonderful things you will accomplish next on your musical journey. 🎹

What is the Musical Ladder Reward System?

At Mississauga Fine Arts Academy, we believe every student benefits from setting and achieving personalized goals. That’s why we use the Musical Ladder System—a unique, motivational program that celebrates students’ progress in music, just like karate belts or swimming levels.

With the Musical Ladder System, each student receives a customized learning plan, and every 3-6 months, they’re tested on their progress and knowledge. As they reach new milestones, we celebrate their achievements with fun rewards, including bracelets and trophies, to recognize their dedication and growth as musicians.

This approach keeps students motivated and inspired, making learning music an exciting journey.
