Our Winter Recitals Are Just Around the Corner!

Light Blue Floral Winter Concert Booklet

The Winter Recital is just around the corner, and we’re thrilled to showcase our talented students on stage! This year, with over 700 students, the recital will be held at the Living Arts Centre in the Rogers Theatre over two weekends: December 13, 14 and 20, 21. Each recital block will be an hour-long and organized by teacher groups. For families with students taking multiple instruments or siblings taking lessons, we’ll make every effort to schedule you in the same block, though this may mean you’ll be with a different instructor than usual.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q – How much do recital tickets cost?

A – Tickets are free! Seating is limited to around 100 seats per block and is first-come, first-served. Please consider this when inviting guests, so everyone has a chance to enjoy the performances.

Q – What should the performers wear?

A – Dress comfortably, but feel free to elevate your style if you like! Many attendees take photos, so this is a wonderful time to look your best while feeling comfortable.

Q – When should we arrive?

A – We recommend arriving 15 minutes before your scheduled block. You’ll need to wait until the prior group has left before entering the hall, and seating is first-come, first-served.

Q – Can we take pictures during the show?

A – Absolutely! Photography is encouraged, but please avoid using flash. This year, we’re hosting a hashtag contest! Share your photos on social media with #MississaugaFineArtsAcademy or #MFAARECITAL for a chance to win a prize! A red carpet area will also be available outside the hall for photos.

Q – How does the stage setup work?

A – The Rogers Theatre is a traditional theatre-style space with the stage at the front and seats on a gradual incline. Performers will sit in the front three rows, and guests are welcome to sit behind them. There’s no backstage, so parents can watch their children at all times.

Now is the perfect time to chat with your teachers about the recital! If you need an accompanist, have questions, or have scheduling concerns, please stop by the front desk, and we’ll be happy to help.

We can’t wait to see you shine on stage and bring the music to life! 🎶

MFAA at the Allan A. Martin Winter Market

We were excited to be invited to the Winter Market at Allan A. Martin Senior Public School and to join so many great local vendors. Supporting our community is always important to us, and events like this give us a chance to connect not only with our MFAA families but also with local schools and neighbours.

It was a fun afternoon meeting parents and students from Allan A. Martin and introducing them to what we do at the Academy. The school is well known for its strong music program, so it felt like a great fit for us to help encourage music and creativity among its students.

We also enjoyed chatting with other local businesses and building new connections. As part of the silent auction, we donated four gift certificates to support the school and give families a chance to try out our lessons.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table, and a big thank-you to Allan A. Martin for having us. We’re already looking forward to the next event and finding more ways to support our community.

Staying Healthy Together at the Academy

Staying Healthy Together at the Academy

As we settle into the new season, we want to take a moment to remind our community of the importance of keeping each other safe and healthy while learning music. Recently, we’ve noticed an increasing number of students attending in-person lessons while feeling unwell. While we’re always excited to see our students, we encourage everyone entering the Academy to practice kindness by self-screening for any cold, flu, or COVID-19 symptoms before coming to class.

For those with seasonal allergies, a quick note to your teacher goes a long way in making sure everyone feels comfortable during lessons. If you are experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, difficulty breathing, sore throat, nausea/vomiting, or congestion, please rest at home and explore one of the many flexible options we have in place to help you continue learning.

Lesson Alternatives When You’re Feeling Unwell

  • Group Make-Up Lessons

Students who miss a class can book one of our unlimited group make-up lessons, which never expire. Sessions are available both in-person and online, and the schedule is already posted through the end of December.

  • Online Lessons

Can’t make it in? Switch your regular lesson to an online session with your teacher at the same day and time. Just let us know in advance so we can prepare the link for you.

  • Sublet Your Lesson Time

If you can’t attend, why not share the gift of music? Parents, siblings, or friends can use your time slot with advance notice to the front desk.

  • Pre-Recorded Lessons

With at least 24 hours’ notice, your teacher can create a personalized video lesson tailored to your current progress—perfect for catching up when you’re feeling better.

Keeping Our Community Safe

Our priority is the well-being of students, families, and staff. Masks remain optional and are available for free at the front desk in both adult and child sizes. We also encourage everyone to wash hands before and after lessons. Together, we can create a safe and supportive learning environment where music continues to thrive.

Thank you for doing your part, and we look forward to making music with you at your next lesson!

What is the Musical Ladder System?

At Mississauga Fine Arts Academy, we believe every student benefits from setting and achieving personalized goals. That’s why we use the Musical Ladder System—a unique, motivational program that celebrates students’ progress in music, just like karate belts or swimming levels.

With the Musical Ladder System®, each student receives a customized learning plan and is tested on their progress every 3 months for the first 18 months, every 6 months until their fifth year, and once a year after that. There are 18 levels in all, from Apprentice to Artist. Every level earns a certificate and a colourful wristband (students even get to choose between two designs), and major milestones, such as reaching Rock Star after one year, also earn a trophy.

This approach keeps students motivated and inspired, making learning music an exciting journey.
