[Parent]: Hello?

[MFAA Admin]: Hello, my name is [MFAA Admin] and I’m calling from Mississauga Fine Arts Academy. How are you?

[Parent]: Good, good.

[MFAA Admin]: Yeah, I’m just calling because you were interested in our singing lessons. Was now a good time to speak?

[Parent]: Yes, actually for my daughter. She’s 11.

[MFAA Admin]: Awesome, okay. And has your daughter taken any music lessons before, or would this be the first time?

[Parent]: No, no. She’s good with singing.

[MFAA Admin]: Okay, so she’s never done lessons before, but she does like to sing and she does it often, I guess at home?

[Parent]: No, no, she has taken lessons also, and she’s good with singing.

[MFAA Admin]: Oh, okay! How long has she taken lessons for?

[Parent]: She is singing since age three on her own, but when she started to go to school, it she was like um maybe eight years when she enrolled the first time in the music school.

[MFAA Admin]: Oh wow, okay! So she’s been doing lessons for the last three years or so, so she’s been singing forever, it sounds like.

[Parent]: Yeah.

[MFAA Admin]: Perfect. Okay, so I can definitely give you some information about us here. So, we offer private music lessons, so they’re one-on-one classes, and they would be once per week at the same day and time every week with one of our qualified teachers here. And we offer 30-minute, 45-minute, and one-hour options, with the 30-minute starting at $39.50 per class, so monthly $158. And we have a promotion right now, so if you register before June 30th, the first class would be free and the registration fee would be waived as well.

[Parent]: Okay. And what are the qualifications of the teachers?

[MFAA Admin]: Yeah, so all of our teachers here are university or college trained, and they’ve been teaching with us for some of them more recently, but most of them for many years now.

[Parent]: And you all are located in Mississauga, right?

[MFAA Admin]: Yes, we’re in Mississauga at Burnhamthorpe and Creditview, so about five minutes west of Square One.

[Parent]: Okay. Mhm. And like um okay, and we don’t have recitals and competitions, these type of things are there?

[MFAA Admin]: Yes, so we do two free recitals per year, and we have those at the Living Arts Centre. So we just did ours for June, the next one will be in December. Um and we have prepared students for competitions before, such as Kiwanis and Peel Music Festival.

[Parent]: Oh, okay. That’s uh okay. Is that Chinese Community Centre?

[MFAA Admin]: We’re beside the plaza. So, you know the Golden Square Centre plaza? It’s right beside that.

[Parent]: Okay. Mhm. So what are the like the timings?

[MFAA Admin]: Yeah, so we’re open seven days a week. Was there a certain day or time you had in mind for the lessons? I can check our schedule.

[Parent]: Weekend.

[MFAA Admin]: Weekends are best. Okay, let’s take a look. Sorry, I didn’t hear that. Could you repeat that?

[Parent]: We are in May, so it’s quite far so I’m not sure. If the could you is there a way you can send me a list of teachers with their qualifications?

[MFAA Admin]: We aren’t able to for privacy reasons. I can send you an email though with our information and then the availability if that’s something you’d be interested in.

[Parent]: And could you let me know their qualifications? So then I’ll just go through that and see like is there like you all teach instruments also, like piano?

[MFAA Admin]: Yes we do. So lots of different instruments: piano, drums, guitar, violin, cello.

[Parent]: Okay. So okay, yeah just send me an email and then I’ll decide. So um like um okay, the free lesson would only be after the like we pay for the classes?

[MFAA Admin]: Yes, so with that promotion, you would need to sign up for at least one month of lessons, but then you would get that first class free and everything else.

[Parent]: Okay, because and how would she like I have to decide on the teacher, right, which she would be comfortable with because she is picky about teachers.

[MFAA Admin]: Yes, so we pair her with a teacher based on your availability, but if you know, if she starts with a teacher and it’s not a good fit or she’s looking for something else, we can make changes moving forward as long as it’s not a change week to week.

[Parent]: No, that is okay, she is not that like unreasonable. But yeah, she has to have that, you know, particular thing what she’s looking for in a teacher.

[MFAA Admin]: Of course. Yes, is there something specific she’s looking for? I can keep that in mind when I look for the availability.

[Parent]: She is more interested in jazz, pop, and things like pop, basically.

[MFAA Admin]: Okay, so not so much classical, but more like pop, jazz music.

[Parent]: Yeah. But yeah, she has some few singers which are her favorites. I’m not sure which.

[MFAA Admin]: That’s okay. So what I’ll do for now, I’ll send you that email with some times available and um some other information as well. And then if you have any questions or if those times work and you’re looking to get started, you can either reply to that email or give us a call back here.

[Parent]: You would not be able to tell me the teacher which is like the most qualified or highly recommended?

[MFAA Admin]: Like I said, all of our teachers here are university or college trained. I can give you some basics about them, but we’re not able to give too much just for privacy reasons.

[Parent]: Okay, so which you would suggest for because she is trained, my daughter, she is trained.

[MFAA Admin]: Yeah, if availability is flexible for weekends, the teacher I have on Sundays at 2:30, she does have a lot of experience with students that sound similar to her interests, so that’s what I would recommend. But I’ll include some other times as well.

[Parent]: Okay. Okay, so I’ll have my daughter look into it and see what she likes.

[MFAA Admin]: Of course, great. Pick whichever one. I’m not sure because I’m not very much musically inclined at all.

[Parent]: That’s okay, no problem. I will send you that information. You can talk to her and let us know, okay?

[MFAA Admin]: Okay. Okay, thank you.

[Parent]: Great, thank you so much. Have a good day.

[MFAA Admin]: You too, bye.

What is the Musical Ladder System?

At Mississauga Fine Arts Academy, we believe every student benefits from setting and achieving personalized goals. That’s why we use the Musical Ladder System—a unique, motivational program that celebrates students’ progress in music, just like karate belts or swimming levels.

With the Musical Ladder System®, each student receives a customized learning plan and is tested on their progress every 3 months for the first 18 months, every 6 months until their fifth year, and once a year after that. There are 18 levels in all, from Apprentice to Artist. Every level earns a certificate and a colourful wristband (students even get to choose between two designs), and major milestones, such as reaching Rock Star after one year, also earn a trophy.

This approach keeps students motivated and inspired, making learning music an exciting journey.
