We’re excited to announce that registration is now open for the Fall Semester of Chamber Strings and Spotlight Singers!

Our ensemble programs give students the opportunity to take their music beyond private lessons — to perform with others, build confidence, develop teamwork and musicianship, and experience the excitement of making music together.

Harmony in Motion: An Evening of Music and Collaboration

On August 15th, MFAA came alive with music as students, teachers, families, and friends gathered for our Harmony in Motion workshop. The evening was a wonderful celebration of collaboration, creativity, and the joy of making music together.

The event brought our Chamber Strings and Spotlight Singers programs together, giving students an opportunity to experience the excitement of ensemble performance while also inviting the audience to become part of the musical experience.

One of the most memorable moments of the evening was our interactive singing experiment with “Black or White.” After a fun vocal warm-up, the audience was invited to join in—and soon the whole room was singing together! It was wonderful to see parents, students, teachers, and guests participating and experiencing firsthand what it feels like to create music as a group.

Throughout the evening, audience members were encouraged to take part in different musical activities, making Harmony in Motion much more than just a performance. It became a shared experience where everyone had an opportunity to participate, connect, and have some fun with music.

The program also featured performances of “Changed,” “Tomorrow,” and “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” with our singers and string players joining forces to demonstrate just how special music can become when young musicians work together.

Beyond the performances, Harmony in Motion was about building confidence, developing ensemble skills, and bringing our MFAA community together through music. It was especially exciting to see our newer Spotlight Singers program taking the stage alongside Chamber Strings and receiving such a warm response from the audience.

A big thank you to our students and teachers for all their preparation and enthusiasm, and to all the families and guests who didn’t just watch from their seats, but enthusiastically joined in and helped make the evening so memorable.

We look forward to seeing Chamber Strings and Spotlight Singers continue to grow, collaborate, and create many more musical moments at MFAA!

At Harmony in Motion, everyone became part of the music!

What is the Musical Ladder System?

At Mississauga Fine Arts Academy, we believe every student benefits from setting and achieving personalized goals. That’s why we use the Musical Ladder System—a unique, motivational program that celebrates students’ progress in music, just like karate belts or swimming levels.

With the Musical Ladder System®, each student receives a customized learning plan and is tested on their progress every 3 months for the first 18 months, every 6 months until their fifth year, and once a year after that. There are 18 levels in all, from Apprentice to Artist. Every level earns a certificate and a colourful wristband (students even get to choose between two designs), and major milestones, such as reaching Rock Star after one year, also earn a trophy.

This approach keeps students motivated and inspired, making learning music an exciting journey.
