Many parents and students are asking questions about how to use their RCM grades as high school credits. Here is some useful information you can refer to.
In Ontario, a grade 11 high school credit can be attained by successfully completing the Grade 7 Practical and associated theory in any musical instrument that is examined, including voice but excluding speech arts and drama.
A grade 12 high school credit can be attained by successfully completing the Grade 8 Practical and associated theory in any musical instrument that is examined, including voice but excluding speech arts and drama. The Grade 8 RCM grade counts as a University/College course credit and can be used for the calculation of entrance averages for universities and colleges.
The accreditations vary by province so make sure to confirm with the Education Ministry website for each province. Check it HERE:
The Ministry of Education allows students who complete appropriate Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) “Certificates” to be granted credits under OS, section 7.3.4. You can see the full document and download the PDF file for your reference HERE:
You can also find it useful to have a Support Document for External High School Accreditation from the Royal Conservatory of Music HERE.
Overall, at the end of the day, it’s not just about the music credits or the high school achievements. It’s the ability to create and collaborate freely through music. There are various MFAA Music Programs that develop creativity in all aspects of musical learning. If you have any questions or would like to find out more about our programs call 905-276-02-51 or email us at info@mississaugafineartsacademy.com
Mississauga Fine Arts Academy has opened a new program, the “MFAA Chamber Strings,” conducted by our award-winning violinist and performer Vira Burmenko.
MFAA Chamber Strings is a group class to create a mature string ensemble here at the academy. Currently focusing on Violin, Viola, and Cello with potential in collaborative piano and other chamber instruments such as clarinet, oboe, harp, and guitar.
The class includes not only rehearsals for specific repertoire aimed for performances but also warm-ups, sight-reading, rhythm and breathing exercises, conducting and communication within an ensemble, as well as contemporary musicianship techniques aimed at improving the group dynamic.
These classes are open to students who regularly take lessons on their instrument for a minimum of one year or had previous experience playing in group ensembles such as Duets, Trios, Chamber or other musical group settings. For more information on how to sign up for a class, please contact us at 905-276-0251 or email info@mississaugafineartsacademy.com.
You don’t need to be our student to join the group. Call us today to sign up for MFAA Chamber String.

Be inspired and celebrate the new school year with music lessons at Mississauga Fine Arts Academy
What is the Musical Ladder Reward System?
At Mississauga Fine Arts Academy, we believe every student benefits from setting and achieving personalized goals. That’s why we use the Musical Ladder System—a unique, motivational program that celebrates students’ progress in music, just like karate belts or swimming levels.
With the Musical Ladder System, each student receives a customized learning plan, and every 3-6 months, they’re tested on their progress and knowledge. As they reach new milestones, we celebrate their achievements with fun rewards, including bracelets and trophies, to recognize their dedication and growth as musicians.
This approach keeps students motivated and inspired, making learning music an exciting journey.
Our goal is to help people in the best way possible. this is a basic principle in every case and cause for success. contact us today for a free consultation.
