Welcome Back to School from the Director

I am thrilled to welcome you all back to Mississauga Fine Arts Academy for another exciting school year! I hope everyone had a restful and fun-filled summer. As we return, I’m reminded of the incredible sense of community we have here, and I’m excited to continue building on that as we create music, learn, and grow together.

Our team has been hard preparing for the year ahead with new programs like our Animal Adventure for our youngest students, inspiring workshops, and upcoming recitals. Whether you’re continuing your musical journey or just beginning, we’re here to support you every step of the way.

Let’s make this year unforgettable!

Sincerely,

Vadim Koltsov

Director, Mississauga Fine Arts Academy

Let the Adventure Begin: New Music Program for Little Ones!

We are excited to announce the launch of our new Animal Adventure program, designed specifically for children ages 3–5. This program focuses on a personalized, one-on-one approach, making it easier to engage each child individually. These private sessions introduce young students to major instruments and early music literacy in a fun, engaging, and playful way.

To help motivate students, the program includes its own reward system, featuring stickers and medals that students receive upon completing each level. There are a total of 10 levels, and they can be completed at each student’s pace without any time pressure.

Why Animal Adventures in Music?

This program covers 10 instruments in 10 levels. Throughout this exciting program, your child will travel through 10 themed books with their teacher, exploring a different instrument in each. Every book is filled to the brim with learning activities, games, stickers and more. Each level is extremely structured and builds off the previous level.

While designing this curriculum, we didn’t want just to teach basic music theory to children; we wanted to engage your child through stories. For example, while learning about the flute, children are invited to work with Bianca the Bee to find the missing flute pieces stolen by some pesky ants! Plus, the private one-to-one structure of the program ensures that no child is going to be rushed to grasp a concept. They can take their time exploring the world of music and have a blast while doing it, creating a love and enjoyment of music that will last a lifetime!

By the time your child graduates from this impressive program, they will be able to identify and understand basic music symbols, read and clap rhythms from quarter note to sixteenth note, and read three octaves of notes on the grand staff, in addition to learning about instruments such as the piano, guitar, drums, violin, cello, clarinet, saxophone, and more!

What‘s a typical class like?

Classes are divided into three sections: Table, Rug, and Stage. Each section is 10 minutes long and packed with fun and learning.

  • Table Time – The student and teacher work together to learn and practice new concepts using their Animal Adventures workbook and other resources such as a music staff whiteboard and flashcards.
  • Rug Time – The student and teacher meet on the Animal Adventures music staff rug to practice note reading, rhythm, and musical expression. This high-energy segment of the class solidifies concepts for young students utilizing fun backyard-style games and silly role-reversal variations.
  • Stage Time – The final segment of the class is spent in hands-on exploration, listening, and learning about one of the 10
  • instruments that are covered.

What do you mean when you say “levels”?

Just like the martial arts Black Belt program, we use different levels as a way of tracking progress and advancement in the program. Each level builds on the previous one! During each level of the program, your child will explore a new instrument and have the opportunity to listen to it, see it, touch it, and learn how it works! They’ll also learn new musical theory concepts and review any previous concepts they learned. After a child has completed a level, they receive a custom medal featuring that level’s character and colour! The full series includes:

  • Level 1: Petey’s Big Adventure – Voice
  • Level 2: Tina Takes on the Jungle – Guitar
  • Level 3: Lacey’s Sticky Violin – Violin
  • Level 4: Bianca and the Pesky Ants – Flute
  • Level 5: Hugo’s Missing Drumsticks – Drums
  • Level 6: Wendy’s Birthday Surprise – Saxophone
  • Level 7: Baxter the Magnificent Magician – Cello
  • Level 8: Gracie Goes for the Gold – Trumpet
  • Level 9: Frankie’s Smoothie Stand – Clarinet
  • Level 10: Rex’s Clean Up Crew – Piano/Keyboard

What comes after Animal Adventures in Music?

By the time students graduate from this program, they are ready to begin private lessons in the instrument of their choice (as long as it is appropriate for their age). No matter what instrument they study going forward, they will have a tremendous head start and an extremely strong musical theory foundation for the rest of their life! Students’ minds are very easily moulded at this age, and our goal is to instill critical music foundations, knowledge, and a lifelong love and appreciation of music.

What are the costs associated with the program?

The private one-on-one lessons are priced similarly to our other instrument lessons: $37.50 per 30-minute private lesson, with a monthly fee of $150. Additionally, a book for each level is required, priced at $29 plus GST. These books are designed to support your progress, offering lesson materials, guides, and homework assignments for each level.

Thank you for considering the Animal Adventure program for your little one! We know how busy your schedule can be, so we’ve extended our hours to make booking more convenient. Early afternoon classes will be available on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday starting as early as noon, and of course, you can still book lessons during our prime hours from 3 pm to 9 pm.

If you’re ready to enroll or have any questions, call/text us at 905-276-0252 or email us at info@mississaugafineartsacademy.com, and we’ll take care of the rest.

Give your child the gift of an early start in music and set them on a fun, exciting musical journey with our Animal Adventure program!

We look forward to welcoming you and your child soon!

What is the Musical Ladder Reward System?

At Mississauga Fine Arts Academy, we believe every student benefits from setting and achieving personalized goals. That’s why we use the Musical Ladder System—a unique, motivational program that celebrates students’ progress in music, just like karate belts or swimming levels.

With the Musical Ladder System, each student receives a customized learning plan, and every 3-6 months, they’re tested on their progress and knowledge. As they reach new milestones, we celebrate their achievements with fun rewards, including bracelets and trophies, to recognize their dedication and growth as musicians.

This approach keeps students motivated and inspired, making learning music an exciting journey.

Our goal is to help you in the best way possible.
