Make the Most of Your Group Makeup Lessons

At MFAA, we understand that life is busy and sometimes lessons get missed. That’s why we offer one-hour Group Makeup Lessons (GMUs) — a flexible, free, and unlimited way to keep your progress on track.

These classes are more than just a makeup option. They are twice as long as regular lessons and provide unique opportunities to learn from peers, experience new teaching styles, and explore a wide variety of repertoire. Students build performance confidence, sharpen listening skills, and practice essential musicianship skills such as sight-reading and improvisation.

Here’s what makes GMUs special:

  • Never expire — book them anytime, as often as you need.
  • Longer & more engaging — one hour of learning, double the length of a regular lesson.
  • Exposure to new ideas — sometimes taught by other teachers, with new styles and perspectives.
  • Learn together — practice, perform, and gain confidence in a supportive group setting.
  • Explore more — sit in on classes for other instruments to broaden your musical knowledge.

With small class sizes (3–6 students), GMUs combine the best of private instruction with the added benefits of collaboration and group learning. Use them often, take advantage of the variety, and turn every missed lesson into an opportunity to grow!

From Practice to Performance: RCM Achievements Revealed

At Mississauga Fine Arts Academy, we are proud to celebrate the dedication and accomplishments of our students. Throughout August and September, many of our talented musicians successfully completed their Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) exams, a true reflection of their commitment to musical excellence.

The RCM program is a prestigious and comprehensive curriculum that develops technical skill, musical expression, and a deep understanding of one’s instrument. Preparing for these exams takes focus, perseverance, and expert instruction, and we are excited to share and recognize the outstanding results achieved by our students this exam season:

Staying Healthy Together at the Academy

unnamed (1)

As we settle into the new season, we want to take a moment to remind our community of the importance of keeping each other safe and healthy while learning music. Recently, we’ve noticed an increasing number of students attending in-person lessons while feeling unwell. While we’re always excited to see our students, we encourage everyone entering the Academy to practice kindness by self-screening for any cold, flu, or COVID-19 symptoms before coming to class.

For those with seasonal allergies, a quick note to your teacher goes a long way in making sure everyone feels comfortable during lessons. If you are experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, difficulty breathing, sore throat, nausea/vomiting, or congestion, please rest at home and explore one of the many flexible options we have in place to help you continue learning.

Lesson Alternatives When You’re Feeling Unwell

  • Group Make-Up Lessons

Students who miss a class can book one of our unlimited group make-up lessons, which never expire. Sessions are available both in-person and online, and the schedule is already posted through the end of December.

  • Online Lessons

Can’t make it in? Switch your regular lesson to an online session with your teacher at the same day and time. Just let us know in advance so we can prepare the link for you.

  • Sublet Your Lesson Time

If you can’t attend, why not share the gift of music? Parents, siblings, or friends can use your time slot with advance notice to the front desk.

  • Pre-Recorded Lessons

With at least 24 hours’ notice, your teacher can create a personalized video lesson tailored to your current progress—perfect for catching up when you’re feeling better.

Keeping Our Community Safe

Our priority is the well-being of students, families, and staff. Masks remain optional and are available for free at the front desk in both adult and child sizes. We also encourage everyone to wash hands before and after lessons. Together, we can create a safe and supportive learning environment where music continues to thrive.

Thank you for doing your part, and we look forward to making music with you at your next lesson!

What is the Musical Ladder Reward System?

At Mississauga Fine Arts Academy, we believe every student benefits from setting and achieving personalized goals. That’s why we use the Musical Ladder System—a unique, motivational program that celebrates students’ progress in music, just like karate belts or swimming levels.

With the Musical Ladder System, each student receives a customized learning plan, and every 3-6 months, they’re tested on their progress and knowledge. As they reach new milestones, we celebrate their achievements with fun rewards, including bracelets and trophies, to recognize their dedication and growth as musicians.

This approach keeps students motivated and inspired, making learning music an exciting journey.
