Music School Faculty Concert 2023
About The Faculty Concert
The Mississauga Fine Arts Academy (MFAA) Faculty Concert is an annual event that is eagerly anticipated by students, parents, faculty, and the local community. This concert brings together the musicians and educators of our music school for an evening of music performances showcasing their expertise and passion for music.
The MFAA Faculty Concert is meticulously prepared to offer a well-rounded program that captivates and engages the audience. It combines solo performances and ensemble collaborations, including student-faculty collaborations, where music instructors and students perform side by side, embodying the spirit of mentorship and camaraderie.
The concert also serves as a platform for collaboration among the faculty members themselves. They often join forces to create unique and captivating performances that combine different instruments, styles, and cultural influences. These collaborative pieces not only showcase the versatility and adaptability of the faculty members but also emphasize the beauty and power of musical collaboration, encouraging students to explore opportunities for ensemble playing and musical partnerships.
The MFAA’s Faculty Concert has been a resounding success year after year, leaving a lasting impact on the music students, their parents, the teachers, and the music-loving community as a whole. Through these diverse and captivating performances, this event instills confidence in students, fosters cultural understanding, and enriches the local arts scene.
The concert stands as a testament to the transformative power of music and the unwavering dedication of the MFAA community to nurturing the musical talents of their students.
The MFAA Faculty Concert has a short but meaningful history. It was first introduced in 2019, with the intention of becoming an “Annual Spring Event”. Due to the challenges posed by the pandemic, the concert had to adapt. Over the past two years, the MFAA team made the decision to host the faculty concerts online, ensuring that the beautiful music could still reach the students, parents, and the broader arts community even through the constraints of the pandemic.
This year, with the combined efforts of the MFAA teachers and administrative team, this exceptional event was live and enjoyed in person, displaying the immense talent and diversity of music styles of both the MFAA faculty and students.
What sets the MFAA Faculty Concert apart is its unique offering. MFAA is the only music school in Mississauga that allows students to watch their teachers perform live on stage. This distinctive feature gives the concert a special place in the hearts of our students, parents and teachers.
The Faculty Concert is a celebration of the rich diversity found within our own music school. With a wide range of music styles, genres, and cultures represented, the concert offers an unparalleled experience for attendees. From classical compositions to jazz improvisations, from traditional folk tunes to contemporary pop arrangements, the concert program encompasses a tapestry of musical expressions.
For the students at our music school, the Faculty Concert is an invaluable opportunity to witness the talent and dedication of their favourite music teachers firsthand. Attending such live performances allows them to observe the mastery and artistry of their music instructors, inspiring them to strive for excellence in their own music education. Our students are able to see their music teachers as performers, helping them see their teachers in a different light beyond their music lessons time. Whether that is violin lessons, cello lessons, or saxophone lessons, this opportunity sparks their interest in learning and even exploring different musical instruments. Such experiences serve not only as a powerful inspiration but also reinforce the importance of consistent practice to help them refine their own musical craft. This exposure allows them to broaden their musical horizons and discover new genres and styles that they may not have encountered before. Some of our students find themselves inspired to add voice lessons to their piano lessons or guitar lessons. Some students may consider a career in music. The possibilities are endless!
The MFFA’s Faculty Concert serves as a reminder to our students that with perseverance and practice, they, too, can achieve remarkable musical heights.
The primary audience for the MFAA Faculty Concert is students and parents, but also friends, family, as well as anyone who has a love and appreciation for the arts. The event aims to create a platform where current or potential students can witness the skill and artistry of our teachers, which in turn nurtures their own passion for music and a desire to share this passion with others. Many of the Faculty Concert attendees are inspired to start a brand-new musical journey of their own and start music lessons for the first time.
The concert not only showcases the faculty’s musical prowess but also highlights their diverse backgrounds and experiences. By embracing various musical styles and cultures, the Faculty Concert fosters an inclusive atmosphere that resonates with the multicultural fabric of Mississauga. It encourages students to explore and appreciate different musical traditions, expanding their horizons and nurturing a global perspective. Beyond its educational value, the Faculty Concert also contributes to the cultural vibrancy of the local community. It serves as a gathering place for music enthusiasts of all ages, attracting families, friends, and music lovers from the surrounding area. The event promotes a sense of community and connection, providing an opportunity for individuals to come together and share their mutual love for music.
By showcasing a wide range of genres and styles, including classical, jazz, pop, rock, and original compositions, the concert offers a comprehensive musical experience that is unparalleled. The concert program is carefully curated to offer a diverse repertoire. It features pieces by renowned composers such as J.S. Bach, Frederic Chopin, Manuel Ponce, Augustin Barrios, Heitor Villa-Lobos, George Gershwin, and Herbie Hancock, among other composers. The event showcases a wide array of musical instruments, including piano, guitar, bass, violin, cello, drums, vocals, and saxophone.
As a surprise performance, the MFAA Chamber Strings student group, led by violin soloist Vira Burmenko, made their debut on the big stage, giving students the opportunity to share their talents with the audience. The audience’s reaction to the concert has been overwhelmingly positive. Students and parents have expressed their appreciation for the teachers’ performances. The event helps build a sense of community within the MFFA music family. After the event, our students feel inspired to excel in their voice lessons, piano lessons, guitar lessons, and other choice musical instrument lessons.
Looking toward the future, the MFAA Faculty’s upcoming concerts will continue to be an integral part of the academy’s educational events. The upcoming concerts will be held annually, serving as a consistent source of motivation and inspiration for students to pursue and further their musical education.
