[Parent]: Hello [Parent] speaking.
[MFAA Admin]: Hi there, my name’s [MFAA Admin] and I’m calling from the Mississauga Fine Arts Academy. How are you?
[Parent]: Oh good, how are you?
[MFAA Admin]: Good thank you. I’m just calling because you were interested in our music lessons, is now a good time to speak?
[Parent]: Um yeah, I have a few minutes right now, yes.
[MFAA Admin]: Yeah, absolutely. So were you looking for the music lessons for yourself or they for someone else?
[Parent]: No, um for my 6-year old daughter, I was thinking about… um, like a trial or I just wanted to see um, for piano lessons for her. Um, she’s interested in music. Um, she’s… I just wasn’t sure about age, like is it is…
[MFAA Admin]: Yeah, absolutely. So six is probably the most popular age that we have to start here. So I would say it is a good place to start for her. Has she done any music lessons before, would this be the first time?
[Parent]: This would be the first time. Yes.
[MFAA Admin]: Perfect. Okay, so I’ll give you some information about us here and what we offer. So we have private music lessons here, so they are one-on-one. The classes would be once per week, they’d be at the same day and time every week with one of our qualified teachers here. And for most beginners, I recommend the 30-minute lessons to start. Those are $39.50 per class, so monthly it’s $158. And you can register anytime.
[Parent]: Okay. And then, um… like is it a specific day or is it like based on my schedule or…
[MFAA Admin]: Yeah, so we’re open seven days a week and you would pick the day and time based on your schedule and I would let you know what we have that matches that.
[Parent]: Oh, I see. Oh, that’s really flexible. Okay. Um, and like what’s the minimum sign up? Like you just said or I think I saw on the website that it goes month to month?
[MFAA Admin]: Yes, so if you were looking just to try it for a little bit to see, you know, how she reacts to it, we offer a trial month. In that case, you would pay for four lessons, we would follow up after the fourth and see if it’s something she’s looking to continue. If not, there’s no further commitment. But if at any point during that month she realizes, you know, you’d like to try a different teacher or even a different instrument, we can make those changes.
[Parent]: I see. And then are there any… because she’s completely new, like all of the teachers… like is there… um, are there recommended teachers?
[MFAA Admin]: Yeah, so all of our teachers are university and college trained so they do have that knowledge and that background, but we do have some teachers that are a little better with um, you know, beginner and younger students. So we would keep that in mind when checking your schedule and availability.
[Parent]: Okay. So, okay, that’s great to hear. And then, um, I did notice on the form that I clicked on, it said something about, um… waiving a registration fee if I sign up?
[MFAA Admin]: Yes, so with that promotion on the website, the first class would be free and the registration fee would be waived, and we can use that if you do the trial month as well.
[Parent]: Okay. Um, so basically I just need to figure out a date and then um, like how soon would we… like would we be looking for anytime start or based on availability?
[MFAA Admin]: Yeah, we can start anytime, we just need 24 hours notice so that the forms can be filled out. It’s a simple package, usually it takes 5 to 10 minutes to fill out and you can even do it online.
[Parent]: Okay, great. So um, I need just need to look at the calendar. Um, I can try to do this right now. Um, how late into the evenings do you go and how… like how long are you open?
[MFAA Admin]: So weekdays we’re open until 9:00 PM. Uh, Saturday we’re open 9 to 5 and Sunday 11 to 4.
[Parent]: Okay, I’m looking at a weekday… uh so probably a Thursday. Do you have availability at… uh… sorry, where are you located again?
[MFAA Admin]: We’re at Burnhamthorpe and Creditview, it’s about five minutes west of Square One.
[Parent]: Okay, we’re right at Square One, so that’s perfect. Um, so do you have availability at say… 5:30 on a Thursday?
[MFAA Admin]: Let me take a look, just give me one moment. I do have 6:00 on Thursdays available.
[Parent]: Okay, actually that’s good.
[MFAA Admin]: Yeah, and if the 5:30 time is better, I have Fridays at 5:30 available.
[Parent]: Um, I will probably be able to stick to Thursdays, more than I can Fridays.
[MFAA Admin]: Okay, no problem. And uh so like I said, we do have that time available. Were you looking to get started this week or are you still figuring things out?
[Parent]: Um, I’m just looking ahead… If possible, can I start on… do you have instructor availability Thursday the 7th, May 7th, sorry?
[MFAA Admin]: Yes, we would be able to do starting May 7th.
[Parent]: Okay, that sounds great.
[MFAA Admin]: Awesome. Okay, so what I can do then, I’m able to place a time on hold for you for 24 hours. I can email you those forms to fill out, and as long as you do those by tomorrow evening, we can have everything ready to start for May 7th, we can do that as the trial month, so by the end of the month we’ll follow up and see how she’s feeling about classes and if you’re wanting her to continue.
[Parent]: Okay. And then can I just ask a question about, you know, with the summer coming up, if we… if um… if there’s a missed lesson, is there a chance to um reschedule it?
[MFAA Admin]: Yes, so we offer group makeup classes for missed classes, so if um, if she’s away because of the summer or if she’s sick or anything like that, then you would book a one-hour group class. Uh, they’re organized by level and by instrument. So even if she wanted to try another instrument, that is an option. Uh, but otherwise yeah, you would just book one of those group makeup classes. They’re unlimited and don’t expire.
[Parent]: Okay, this is amazing. Thank you. Um, okay, so you just need my email address then?
[MFAA Admin]: I believe I have it here, just let me confirm. Is it [Email Removed]?
[Parent]: Oh yes it is, yes.
[MFAA Admin]: Perfect. Okay, and can I get the spelling of your name please?
[Parent]: Yeah, my first name is [Parent] [Spelling Removed]… Last name is [Last Name Removed]. And my daughter’s name is [Child’s Name].
[MFAA Admin]: [Child’s Name Spelling Removed]?
[Parent]: Yes.
[MFAA Admin]: Perfect. Okay, so I will go ahead and send that to you shortly. You should get it in the next 15 minutes or so. If you don’t, check your spam folder, sometimes the forms do go there. But you’ll get two emails, the first one will go over the payment information and what you need to know, but the details. The second one will be the forms themselves, and like I said, it is a fillable online form, so you just uh fill it out online and then hit submit when you’re done.
[Parent]: Okay, that’s fantastic. Thanks so much for calling.
[MFAA Admin]: Yep, no problem. Like I said, we just need those back by tomorrow evening, so um, you’ll get those shortly. Thank you so much.
[Parent]: Okay, thank you.
[MFAA Admin]: Alright, take care, bye.
[Parent]: Bye bye.

The Musical Ladder System® is a gamified reward system used exclusively in Mississauga by MFAA to motivate students. It works by:
Visualizing Progress: Students earn coloured wristbands (like karate belts) every 3 months for passing achievement tests.
Setting Micro-Goals: Instead of practicing for a distant recital, students practice to earn their next wristband or trophy in the short term.
Building Confidence: It turns practice from a "chore" into a "challenge," significantly improving student retention and enjoyment.
While home tutors may be slightly cheaper, a professional facility offers stability, safety, and community that a basement studio cannot.
Reliability: If a home teacher gets sick or moves away, lessons stop. At an academy, we handle transitions seamlessly.
Environment: A professional environment with sound-treated rooms and high-quality instruments focuses the student's mind on learning.
Events: Academies like MFAA offer large-scale performance opportunities (like at the Living Arts Centre) that private tutors generally cannot organize.
